Torch compatibility is not optional

A plasma torch is matched to its power source. The connection, the pilot arc circuit, the safety interlock and the gas path are all specific, and a torch that physically connects to the wrong machine will either not fire or will fail in a way that takes consumables and sometimes the torch with it.

Tell us the make and model of your machine when you order a torch, and we will confirm the match before it ships. Getting this wrong is expensive in a way that getting a nozzle wrong is not.

Lead length costs you voltage

A longer lead set is genuinely useful - 25 feet means cutting across a bay without dragging the machine along. It is not free. Voltage drops over the length of the lead, and on a machine already near its limit at your material thickness, a long lead can be the difference between a clean sever and a cut that will not part.

Buy the length you need for the work, not the longest available. If you cut at the top of your machine's rated range, keep the lead short.

The consumable stack is a system

Electrode, swirl ring, nozzle, retaining cap and shield are designed to work as a set at a stated amperage. Mixing amperage ratings across the stack, or running a worn electrode with a new nozzle, gives a wandering, angled, dross-heavy cut that operators reliably blame on the machine.

Change the electrode and the nozzle together. When the electrode pit depth exceeds the manufacturer's limit, the arc starts attacking the nozzle, and a cheap part takes an expensive one with it.

Dry air is what keeps a torch alive

Moisture and compressor oil carried into the torch head destroy consumables at a fraction of their rated life and, over time, damage the torch body itself. A dryer and a coalescing filter at the machine cost less than a single torch replacement.

Handle it like the precision part it is

Do not use the torch to strike, lever or drag against heavy work, and do not let the lead run across hot plate or through spatter. The torch head carries a consumable seal and a pilot arc circuit, and both are unforgiving of abuse.
