E7018/E7018-1 is a low-hydrogen coated electrode extensively utilized across all industries for welding carbon and low alloy steels. This electrode boasts excellent strength and toughness properties, ensuring robust welds. It facilitates a smooth, stable arc with minimal spatter, along with superior arc starting and re-strike capabilities, accompanied by easy slag removal. Recommended applications include welding structural steel, general construction, pressure vessels, boilers, pipes, bridges, power plants, and marine industry, wherever high-quality welds are imperative. This low-hydrogen iron powder electrode yields high-quality x-ray welds and is suitable for all positions on AC or DC reverse polarity welding current. It's particularly recommended for welding medium-grade carbon steels without preheat and cold-rolled steels prone to excessive porosity when welded with conventional electrodes. Typical applications encompass low-alloy structures, low, medium, and high carbon steels, offshore rigs and power plants, steel structures, as well as tack welds for tubular wire applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

These electrodes are suitable for all-position welding, including flat, horizontal, vertical-up, and overhead applications when proper welding procedures are followed.
Typical ranges are: 3/32" (70–110A), 1/8" (90–150A), 5/32" (140–220A). Actual settings may vary depending on joint design, welding position, and machine characteristics.
3/32" electrodes are commonly used for 1/8"–1/4" steel, 1/8" electrodes for 1/4"–1/2" steel, and 5/32" electrodes for thicker structural sections requiring higher deposition rates.
To maintain low-hydrogen characteristics, opened electrodes should be stored in a rod oven at approximately 250°F–300°F (120°C–150°C) or in a sealed dry container when not in use.
Yes. If moisture absorption is suspected, electrodes may be rebaked according to applicable welding procedures and manufacturer recommendations before use on critical welds.
These electrodes are designed for welding mild steel, carbon steel, and many structural steel applications requiring strong, crack-resistant weld deposits with low hydrogen content.
