Each 0.5lb sleeve of 3/32" (2.4mm) contains approx. 15-16 brazing rods (Length 18”). Please note that these are not TIG Welding rods. This product may appear in irregular shape and size due to its natural characteristics. You will receive the amount of product that corresponds to the weight you purchased. This rod is a versatile welding tool that does not require flux and can be used for welding zinc base metals and brazing aluminum. The rod is made of high-quality virgin metal with a melting point of 390°C (732°F). It has a chemical composition of 93% Zinc, 4% Aluminum, 3% Copper, and 0.05% Magnesium. It is suitable for repairing kirk site dies, power tools, aluminum radiators, propellers, castings, lower units, hardware accessories, boat hulls, engine castings, marine hardware, carburetor bowls, trophies, ornaments, and boat seats. It can be used with acetylene, propane, and MAPP gas, and requires thorough tinning of joint surfaces before flowing the rod to fill the vee.
Brazing Aluminum:
Brush the surface to be repaired thoroughly under heat to break up surface oxide. Heat the metal hot enough to flow the rod without the aid of the flame, thoroughly tinning the surface. Brush the tinned surface under heat, thoroughly filling the open pores. With joint surfaces thoroughly tinned, flow in enough rod to fill the vee. Be sure filler metal fuses with the tinned surface without melting the base metal. Continue until the break is completely filled.
Welding Zinc-Base Metals:
Vee the broken edges of the area to be repaired to about 45°. Clean the surface of any plating or scale back from the edges of the vee by 1/8 of an inch. Heat the metal until it starts to flow. Turn the flame parallel to the surface and hold the metal at this heat with the indirect flame. Heat the welding rod to the same temperature. With both the base metal and rod at this temperature, touch the rod to the break. It will flow into the vee, fusing thoroughly. Continue until the break is completely filled. Be sure to kick the rod into weld to break down skin resistance or the filler rod will lay on the surface and will not fuse.
