Collets & Gas Lenses

Collets, collet bodies and gas lens bodies for TIG torches, in the two series that cover most machines - 9/20/25 for the smaller air and water-cooled torches, and 17/18/26 for the larger ones.

Collet and collet body work as a pair

The collet grips the tungsten and carries current into it. The collet body seats the collet and directs the shielding gas. Both are consumables, and both are sized to the tungsten diameter - a 1/16 collet does not hold 3/32 tungsten, and forcing it damages both.

A collet that has lost its grip causes arc instability and lets heat build at the torch head. If the tungsten slips when you set stickout, the collet is finished.

Gas lenses are the upgrade worth making

A gas lens replaces the standard collet body with a layered stainless mesh screen. That screen converts turbulent gas flow into smooth laminar flow, and the difference is substantial:

• Wider, more even shielding coverage from the same flow rate
• Tungsten can extend much further out of the cup without losing shielding - which means you can reach into joints a standard setup cannot
• Less gas consumption for equivalent protection
• Noticeably cleaner welds on stainless and aluminum, where atmospheric contamination shows immediately

For anyone welding stainless or aluminum regularly, a gas lens setup is close to standard equipment rather than an accessory.

Match the series before ordering

The 9/20/25 and 17/18/26 families are not interchangeable. If you are not certain which torch you have, bring it to the counter or send a photograph of the head and we will identify it.
