Connectors & Adapters

Gas fittings, cylinder adapters, hose couplers, quick-connects, flashback arrestors and backflow preventers - CGA-standard brass from Western Enterprises, Superior Products, PowerWeld and Super Flash.

Flashback arrestors and check valves are not the same device

They are routinely confused, sold interchangeably and fitted in the wrong place, so be clear on which problem you are solving.

  • A backflow preventer, or check valve, stops gas travelling the wrong way down a hose - it prevents oxygen and fuel gas mixing in the lines when pressures fall out of balance.
  • A flashback arrestor does that and also contains a flame front, stopping a flashback before it reaches the cylinder.

Arrestors at the regulator protect the cylinder; check valves at the torch protect the hoses. On any serious oxy-fuel setup you want both, and an arrestor is not optional on propane or propylene.

CGA numbers exist so the wrong gas cannot be connected

CGA fitting designations - 410, 510, 520, 032 and the rest - are a keying system. The thread form, diameter and seat are deliberately different between gas families so that a fuel-gas regulator physically cannot mount on an oxygen cylinder.

That is a safety feature, which is why an adapter is only ever legitimate between two fittings carrying the same gas. Adapting across gas families defeats the entire purpose of the standard, and it is how people get hurt.

Left-hand threads and the red hose

Fuel-gas fittings are left-hand threaded and usually notched around the nut; oxygen is right-hand. Red hose is fuel, green is oxygen, and the convention holds across every manufacturer on this page. If a nut seems to need force, it is the wrong nut.

No oil, no grease, no tape on oxygen

Oxygen and hydrocarbons ignite under pressure. Never lubricate an oxygen fitting, never put PTFE tape on a CGA seat - these are metal-to-metal seals and tape both prevents sealing and sheds debris into the regulator. Wipe threads clean and dry, and torque to seat.

Leak-test every joint every time

Soapy water on each connection at working pressure, before the first light. A fitting that sealed last week is not a fitting that seals today - brass takes a set, and vibration in a van undoes what a wrench did.
