TIG is a dexterity problem

You feed filler rod by hand, inches from the arc, and you need to feel it. A stick glove makes that impossible - which is why welders who only own heavy gloves end up feeding rod badly or, worse, taking a glove off.

TIG also throws almost no spatter. The heat is radiant and localised, so the glove can be far thinner without being unsafe for the process.

Goatskin or sheepskin

• Goatskin is the standard. Naturally high in lanolin, so it stays supple, resists abrasion well for its thickness, and gives excellent feel. The durable choice.
• Sheepskin is softer still and gives the finest feel of any TIG leather. Preferred for precision and fine detail work. Less abrasion resistant, so it wears faster if you are handling material in them.

Cuff length is a real decision

Short cuffs give maximum wrist mobility for bench and precision work. Long cuffs protect the forearm on positional and out-of-position welding where the arc is above the hand. Most TIG welders who work varied positions keep both.

Seamless index finger

Worth looking for. The index finger is where you feed and steady the rod, and a seam there is both a wear point and something you feel every minute of the day.

Do not use these for stick or heavy MIG

They will not take the spatter and you will burn through them in a shift. Different tool, different job.
