Replace the electrode and nozzle together
The electrode and nozzle wear as a pair. A worn electrode quickly damages a new nozzle, and a worn nozzle shortens electrode life. When cut quality drops, replace both.
How to tell an electrode is finished
Look at the hafnium insert in the centre of the electrode face. As it wears it pits. On air plasma electrodes, replace at a pit depth of about 1.6 mm (1/16 in). Running past this point can blow out the electrode and damage the torch.
Match the consumables to the torch and current
- 420132 - 30A electrodes for Powermax30.
- 220777 - electrodes for DURAMAX torches, 45-105A.
- 420480 - gouging shield for DURAMAX and DURAMAX Lock torches, 45-105A.
Gouging needs gouging consumables. A cutting shield used for gouging wears fast and gives a poor groove.
Dry air protects every part of the stack
Moisture and oil in the compressed air are the fastest way to destroy consumables. Fit a filter and dryer at the machine.
