Nexalloy

Nexalloy aluminum filler metals - ER4043, ER5356 and ER5554 in MIG wire and 36 inch TIG rods.

Choose the filler by base metal

  • ER4043 - silicon-bearing. Flows well, low crack sensitivity, the first choice for 6000-series extrusions and castings. It turns grey if the part is anodized.
  • ER5356 - magnesium-bearing. Higher strength and stiffer wire that feeds more reliably, with a better colour match after anodizing. For 5000-series and structural work.
  • ER5554 - for parts in sustained service above about 65Β°C, such as tanks and marine work that runs warm. High-magnesium fillers such as 5356 become prone to stress corrosion cracking at those temperatures.

Store aluminum filler dry

Hydrated oxide on the surface of aluminum wire and rod is a direct cause of porosity. Keep spools bagged and rods in a sealed tube, away from temperature swings that cause condensation.

Feed it properly

Use a spool gun or push-pull gun, U-groove drive rolls and a plastic liner for MIG. Use AC on the TIG machine to break the oxide layer.
