Reflex
Reflex abrasives - Type 1 flat cutting discs and 4.5 inch metal grinding discs.
Cutting disc or grinding disc - never swap them
A cutting disc is thin and built for load on its edge only. Used for side grinding, it can break. A grinding disc is thick, reinforced and built for side pressure at a shallow angle - roughly 20 to 30 degrees to the work. Use each for its own job.
Getting the most from a grinding disc
- Let the disc do the work. Excess pressure slows the grinder, heats the part and glazes the disc.
- Keep the disc moving to avoid gouging and heat build-up in one spot.
- On stainless, use discs reserved for stainless only, so carbon steel particles do not cause rust later.
Safety basics
Check that the disc's maximum RPM is equal to or higher than the grinder's speed, keep the guard fitted, and wear a faceshield over safety glasses.
