These 5" (125 mm) Type 27 grinding discs are built for fast, heavy stock removal on carbon steel, mild steel and stainless steel. Welders, fabricators and maintenance crews use them for weld removal, bevelling and surface prep. They are 1/4" thick for long disc life and fiberglass reinforced for stability and safety at full grinder speed.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best 5" grinding disc for steel and stainless steel?

For mixed shop work, a contamination-free disc rated for both steel and stainless steel (inox) is the safest choice. Sonnenflex Silverstar is made in Europe to EN12413 and suitable for both. Karbosan offers a value option for general metal grinding. Keep separate discs for stainless steel to avoid cross-contaminating it with carbon steel.

Why use a separate disc for stainless steel?

A disc that has touched carbon steel carries iron particles. If you then grind stainless with it, that iron embeds in the surface and causes rust spots (free-iron contamination). Use stainless-rated, iron- and sulfur-free discs, and dedicate them to stainless work.

What does Type 27 depressed center mean?

Type 27 discs have a recessed center hub, so the grinder's nut sits below the grinding face. That lets you grind flat or at a 15–30 degree angle for weld removal, blending and bevelling without the nut touching the work.

Will this 5" disc fit my angle grinder?

Yes, if your grinder takes 5" (125 mm) discs. The standard 7/8" (22.23 mm) arbor fits DeWalt, Milwaukee, Makita, Bosch, Metabo and other common angle grinders. Always match the guard to the disc size and never exceed the disc's maximum RPM.

Can I cut with a grinding disc?

No. A 1/4" Type 27 grinding disc is designed for side grinding only. For cutting, use a thin cutting disc (Type 1 or Type 27 cut-off wheel). Using a grinding disc to cut can overload it and cause breakage.

Do you ship grinding discs across Canada?

How do I use a grinding disc safely?

Wear a face shield over safety glasses, hearing protection and gloves. Keep the guard on. Inspect the disc for cracks before mounting, run the grinder briefly before touching the work, and grind at 15–30 degrees with moderate pressure. Replace the disc when it wears to the label.
