ER80S-Ni1: nickel for toughness in the cold

ER80S-Ni1 contains about 1% nickel. Nickel improves impact toughness at low temperature, which is why it is specified for weathering steels, low-temperature service and outdoor structures that see Canadian winters. It also gives higher strength than ER70S filler.

  • Use it where the base metal or the specification calls for a nickel-bearing filler.
  • For general mild steel, ER70S-2 or ER70S-6 is the economical choice.

Flux-coated low-fuming bronze

Low-fuming bronze brazes steel, cast iron, copper and brass at a lower temperature than welding, with less distortion and no melting of the base metal. The flux coating removes the step of dipping in powder flux - the rod carries its own.

Braze with a neutral to slightly oxidizing oxy-acetylene flame. Clean the joint to bright metal first; bronze will not wet through rust or scale.
