Is a shade 11 welding helmet good for MIG and Stick welding?

Yes, for most garage and shop work. The AWS F2.2 shade selector suggests shade 11 for MIG and flux-core at 60–160 A and shade 10 for Stick in the same range. Above about 160 A, DIN 11 still meets the minimum, but a variable DIN 9–13 helmet such as the NovaSight 55 lets you go darker.

Can I use the AeroView 60 for TIG welding or plasma cutting?

It is not the right tool for either. DIN 11 is too dark to follow a plasma cut (20–60 A cutting calls for shade 5–6), and no TIG amperage rating is published. For TIG, choose the ProDuty 94 (rated from 5 A) or NovaSight 55 (from 10 A); for plasma cutting, the ClariView 80, ArcDuty 90 or ProDuty 94.

What does optical class 1/1/1/2 mean on a welding helmet?

It is the four-part rating used by the EN 379 standard: optical quality (distortion), light diffusion, uniformity of shade across the lens and angle dependence. Each is scored from 1 (best) to 3, so 1/1/1/2 means top marks in the first three categories and class 2 for viewing at an angle.

Does the AeroView 60 need batteries?

It runs on solar cells backed by one replaceable 3 V lithium battery, and powers on and off automatically.

Will the AeroView 60 work in a cold shop?

It is rated to operate from -5°C to +55°C and can be stored from -10°C to +70°C. In colder shops, keep the helmet in a heated area between jobs, because auto-darkening filters respond more slowly when chilled.

Can I grind with the AeroView 60?

It has no grind mode, so grinding sparks can trigger the filter. For grinding, wear a clear face shield such as the Fibre-Metal FMF400CSA face shield.
