Overview
MapleWeld NovaSight 55: ANSI/CSA Certified Variable-Shade Welding Helmet with Grind Mode
The MapleWeld NovaSight 55 is an ANSI/CSA certified auto-darkening welding helmet with a variable DIN 9–13 shade set from an external dial, a DIN 4 grind mode, 1/1/1/2 optical class and a 1/25,000-second (0.04 ms) switching lens. It covers MIG, Stick and TIG welding from 10 A, and switches to grinding without lifting the hood.
Two arc sensors with adjustable sensitivity and delay, a 93 × 43 mm (3.66 × 1.69 in) viewing area and solar power backed by a replaceable CR2032 battery with a low-battery alarm make it a dependable everyday helmet for Canadian fabricators, maintenance welders and serious hobbyists.
Key Features
- ANSI/CSA certified: Certified to ANSI and CSA safety standards, the certification many Canadian job sites require.
- External shade dial (DIN 9–13): Change shade without taking the helmet off.
- External grind mode (DIN 4): Lock the filter light for grinding and slag removal, then switch back to weld mode.
- 1/25,000 s switching (0.04 ms): Two arc sensors darken the filter almost instantly; delay is infinitely adjustable from 0.1 to 1.0 s.
- TIG-ready from 10 A: Infinitely variable sensitivity, rated for AC and DC TIG at 10 A and up.
- 1/1/1/2 optical class: Clear, low-distortion view across the 93 × 43 mm window.
- Solar power + CR2032 battery: Low-battery alarm and ADF self-test button confirm the filter is working before you strike an arc.
- Cold-weather rated: Operates from -5°C to +55°C and stores down to -20°C.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the MapleWeld NovaSight 55 CSA approved?
Yes. The NovaSight 55 is certified to ANSI and CSA safety standards.
What shade range does the NovaSight 55 cover?
Dark shades from DIN 9 to DIN 13, set on an external dial, plus a DIN 4 light state and a DIN 4 grind mode. UV/IR protection is always on up to DIN 16.
Can the NovaSight 55 be used for TIG welding?
Yes, from 10 A AC or DC. Turn the sensitivity up for low-amp TIG. For work below 10 A on thin stainless or aluminium, the ProDuty 94 is rated from 5 A and adds two more arc sensors.
How do I use grind mode on the NovaSight 55?
Select grind on the external control. The filter locks at DIN 4 so grinding sparks will not darken it. Switch back to weld mode before you strike an arc.
How fast does the NovaSight 55 lens darken?
In 1/25,000 of a second (0.04 ms). The delay back to light is adjustable from 0.1 to 1.0 s: short for tacking, longer for high-amperage welds.
What battery does the NovaSight 55 use?
One replaceable CR2032 lithium coin cell, supported by a solar cell. A low-battery alarm warns you before it runs out, and the self-test button confirms the filter is working.
Is the NovaSight 55 good for plasma cutting?
Only for heavier cutting: DIN 9 is the suggested shade at 80–300 A. For lighter cutting (20–60 A calls for shade 5–6), choose a dual-range helmet such as the ClariView 80, ArcDuty 90 or ProDuty 94.
